Online interviews: tips for recruiters and candidates
How to run and join video interviews smoothly.
For recruiters
Send the link, time and expected duration in advance. Admit the candidate from the waiting room and introduce everyone on the panel. Keep questions structured and leave time for the candidate to ask theirs.
For candidates
Test your audio, camera and internet beforehand, choose a quiet place with light in front of you and keep a backup number handy. Close other apps and join a few minutes early.
Technical tasks
If there is a coding or design task, agree the format in advance. Screen sharing lets the interviewer see your work in real time.
If the connection drops
Rejoin from the same link and tell the panel. A fair interviewer will pick up where you left off.
After the interview
Recruiters should send timely feedback. Candidates can send a short thank-you note.
