Why every host should use a waiting room

What a waiting room is, how it protects meetings and how to combine it with passcodes and locks.

What it is

A waiting room is a lobby: people who open your link wait there until you let them in. You see their names and decide who enters.

What it protects you from

Meeting links travel — they are forwarded, posted in groups and saved in calendars. Without a waiting room, anyone who finds the link can walk in. A waiting room stops uninvited people from seeing your screen or disturbing the session.

How to use it well

Turn it on before you share the link. Ask a co-host to admit people so you can prepare to present. Admit by name, and remove anyone you do not recognise. Once everyone has arrived, lock the meeting.

Combine layers

For confidential meetings, add a passcode as well. The passcode proves the person had the right information; the waiting room lets you confirm who they are.

It also helps with order

For classes and consultations, the waiting room doubles as a queue: you can admit one client at a time and keep conversations private.
